The Cooper Union Summer Art Intensive accepts students from all over the world, ages 15-18, who will be living in New York City or surrounding areas during the course of the program.
Students are placed in one of four concentrations: Drawing Intensive, Digital Photography, Graphic Design, or Animation. All students take drawing classes as well as an Art Issues and Writing Class.
We will contact applicants via email by April 25th regarding admission.
The Cooper Union Summer Art Intensive prepares students to apply for undergraduate admission at top art colleges around the world. The CUSAI program runs Monday -Thursday, 9am - 4pm, from July 1 - 31, with a student exhibition, animation screening, and poetry reading on August 1.
We are offering a number of Merit scholarships for New York City public high school students that will cover the full tuition of the program ($2,900), including instructional materials. In order to qualify, you must be a student in a New York City public high school and you must attend the portfolio review on March 16th ready to show your work.
The portfolio review will take place on Saturday March 16th from 10am to 2pm at 41 Cooper Square, room 101. Bring 10 to 20 pieces that you feel best represent your abilities. Please include drawings from observation and bring your sketchbook(s)! Your work will be reviewed one-on-one with a member of our faculty, staff, or alumni.
The Cooper Union Art Pre-College Outreach Art Program is a free program of studio courses, creative writing and art issues seminars for New York City area high school students interested in preparing a portfolio for college.
All applicants must attend the portfolio review, with artwork ready for viewing. Bring 10 to 20 pieces of art work, a sketchbook and drawings from observation. Portfolio review for the Spring 2019 Program will take place on Saturday, February 9th from 10am to 2pm at 41 Cooper Sq.
Only High School Juniors and Seniors are eligible for the Fall 2018 Program. Courses are held Saturdays 9AM to 5PM, February 23 - April 13, 2019. Students may choose either 2DD or 3DD as their concentration and all students will take a drawing class + the Contempoary Art Issues & Writing class. All materials are provided free of cost.
